Description
According to a quick report from the duty officers in Dien Bien, Tuyen Quang, Lam Dong, and Ca Mau provinces, the following damage was caused by thunderstorms and heavy rain on July 27-28, 2026:
- Regarding casualties: 1 person died ( Ms. Vang Thi Xa, born in 1949, residing in Ban May commune, Tuyen Quang province, died due to a landslide while cutting grass ); 1 person was injured (Ca Mau).
- Regarding houses: 6 houses collapsed; 48 houses had their roofs blown off (Ca Mau); 108 houses were flooded from 0.3-1.5m ( in Ward 3, Bao Loc: 80 houses, including 5 households with 16 people isolated due to rapidly rising water and strong currents; the elderly and children were urgently evacuated; in B'Lao Ward: 8 houses and in Da Teh 2 commune: 20 houses ); the water has now receded.
- Regarding agriculture: 75.6 hectares of crops were damaged (Lam Dong: 70 hectares; Dien Bien: 5.6 hectares).
- Other damage: landslides in several locations on inter-communal roads; 170m of irrigation canal damaged.
Local authorities have mobilized on-site forces to help people relocate themselves and their belongings, repair damage, and stabilize their lives; clean up areas affected by landslides to ensure smooth traffic flow; and continue to assess and compile damage statistics.
